If you have recently looked into summertime camps for your kids, you probably were amazed to find out it could cost over $500 per week to keep 2 kids occupied from nine to three each day. That can put a large dent in your personal budget spreadsheet. Crazy! Instead, you may want to get creative and entertain your children for free or almost free over the hot months. Library and bookstore programs are always available. In addition to regular all year storytimes, many bookstores and libraries rev up their summertime offerings for children to include craft classes, visits by authors, and book clubs '" all at a low budget friendly cost, and sometimes totally free. Local libraries may also host cartoonists, clowns, magicians, and more.
You can do a babysitting co-op. Your friends with kids are in the same position you are '" a long summer season with no relief in sight. Team up and give one another support. Enlist several of your friends with kids, and each family takes one day per week to host the children for 3-4. One day a week in exchange for three or four days of freedom is a great bargain!
Do vacation Bible schools in the summer season. Week-long day camps are a regularity for a lot of church kids programs. Usually the cost is minimal as the programs are subsidized by the church. The children are treated to songs, outdoor activities, crafts, and more. If you do it right, you could sign up for several camps at different churches in your area. Sometimes parents are enlisted for snacks, staffing, etc., so be aware of the requirements before you sign up.
Mama's little helper. Now, if you have younger kids, you may want an extra pair of hands to assist you entertain them while you get important work finished around your place. And if you have older kids, you may just need someone to have an eye on them to keep the dining room from becoming a bedlam. Either way, a mother's helper may be your ticket. Usually a 'mother's helper' is younger than a babysitter hired to watch the kids during the time that you're out. A mother's helper also would in most cases charge lower than an average high school sitter. Perfect for at-home, part-time help.
Begin your own part time daycare. Convert your pain right to a gain, and watch other people's children at your home for pay. Most states don't require licensing for casual babysitting of just a few kids, but check with your state and town to make certain you're fulfilling all requirements. Be sure you have a schedule that remains structured in order to provide dependable care. Giving a fun and safe residence for several children to remain while their parents are at work may be a perfect alternative to your own family's summer activities.
