Putting Your Youngsters To Participate In A Household Business
If you have your own business, putting your kids to participate in the family business makes a lot of sense. Not only are children not apart of some of the tax and labor laws when participating in a family owned endeavor in many areas, but letting the kids have a sense of ownership can take them far when the family endeavor passes to their hands at some point.
Keep in mind your kid's age when you begin to employ them in the family company. Even young kids can participate in simple jobs like as copying files. As they mature, children can organize papers, file, help prepare shipments, keep inventory of credit, send faxes and more.
Be tolerant as they learn and explain jobs clearly. You know your child better than anyone, so take into account whether she or he can follow different directions at one time, or if one job given at a time is a better fit. If your child can read well, have that child do more complicated jobs and leave the simpler jobs to a smaller child.
While hiring your children could ultimately save you cash, make sure you pay them a decent profit for the work they do. Encourage your kids to save a little of what they make and give some of what they make to a charity. And also, let them have at least some of the money they've worked for to spend however they want to. This gives kids a stronger want to work hard and a lesser desire to live off of credit. Everyone needs rewards, but children really have a want for at least some instant gratification.
Be tolerant and know that kids are still kids. There might be days when you've got a deadline to meet and the child just wants to fool around. Or there might be days when you just can't get your kids to focus. On those days, do your best to make them realize the task at hand and that there is something to be done first. After the job is done, take time to have fun, and relax and enjoy your children. They need to know you're a mom or dad first, and the manager second.
Utilize work time to help your kids learn the enjoy of earning an income, and the responsibility and methods of managing money. In addition, assist them in becoming dependable employees, cultivate a good work ethic, and understand the value of a job done right.
Putting the kids to work in the household company can help you, as a sole owner, get help you need to finish important tasks. But, it should even give your children a taste of the workplace and help them understand the value of money management. That way when they mature, they will stay clear from debt and credit issues. This is a much easier lesson to ascertain when money is made rather than given.
